Dear blog which is not diary, Today Roy and I had planned what we were going to do after our O-levels and this is what we decided to do all in one day next year.
We had decided that we were going to go to a very expensive Salon in Suntec City and cut our hair to a stylish cut, perm our hair, then dye our hair, then have hair treatment, rebond out hair, highlight our hair, Gel it up, wash away the Gel, then put more Gel then have extentions and extend our hair on the right side of the fringe to about 30 cm, then connect the edge of the extended fringe to the left side of our fringe and cut the top of our right fringe so that the extention would then be on our left fringes and then cut that extention. Then shave Bald and extend the hair on the floor. Then rub oil on our heads, fry egg, throw away the egg, drink water and go home.
Well I cant wait for that day! But i sure have to wait for the O-Levels to finish before i can cut my hair to that new hairstyle that i had always dreamed of but until then, its time to mug mug and mug! MORE MUGGING!!!

Some might ask what is my favourite food? And some might think they know, but in truth, neither do I know for sure. The food I eat on an everyday basis is restricted mainly to only the school canteen and of course, good old home cooked food! Its nothing really that fancy, but for the “garbage bin” that I am, I’ll eat anything and everything!

Over the past “almost” sixteen years of my life, I’ve been eating simple home cooked food, although I’m not so sure what inedible “plastic objects” I might have eaten as a child. And though I’m strongly inclined towards western foods such as the renowned and ever so popular “fish and chips”, my love for food stays in the east, predominantly Chinese food. Somehow Chinese food acts as a “custom made” magnet for my taste buds and though I am unsure what the cause is, I’ve had this gut feeling that it must have been a plastic toy that I had eaten as a child with a fine print of what seemed like hieroglyphics at that age, the words “made in china”.

Of all the Chinese dishes that I love, there are two sinfully cunning dishes that are able to tempt me. One makes me fat and the other makes me broke, “if I actually had to pay for it”. The first culprit would be the simple everyday chicken rice I’d describe as affordable, easily found, and tastier that heavenly chocolate! If you were to ask any teenager, at just a moment’s thought they would have been able to tell you that chocolate would be the first on their “cravings” list. I had compared chicken rice to chocolate, an unusual comparison but nonetheless, you’d be able to tell just how much I love chicken rice from the aroma and taste of the chicken, right down to the plain rice itself! However, I had labelled this dish as “cunning” reasons being that despite myself knowing how fattening and unhealthy it may be, I am constantly enticed and compelled to consume this lovely dish upon the sight of it with this voice at the back of my head whispering to me “go on marvin, eat, Eat, EAT!!”

Besides chicken rice, the other cunning dish that is able to create an instant “Jacuzzi” of saliva in my mouth upon my sight, is the popular mouth watering, wallet “relieving” dish, Sharks fin soup. As a seafood addict, sharks fin to me is considered no less than “royal food” and truly it has lived up to its name. The only times that I am able to enjoy this delicacy is during weddings, which explains why as a kid I had always wanted my cousins to get married quickly. However now that they all are married, majority of my opportunities have been lost and I’ll have to wait for special occasions before this wallet-relieving dish reappears before me again and hopefully, it wont have to be my own wallet that gets lighter.

And so as I have vividly described, the two dishes I’d consider as my favourite dishes would be the simple chicken rice, and the rare sharks fin soup. I’m sure that many other people would have their own preferences, tastes and distastes about certain food but for me, nothings suits me better than Chicken rice and Sharks fin soup!

It was the early morning of the second of January, my first day in secondary school. What could possibly go wrong? i thought to myself. The answer was simple,"Everything".

I stepped in the unfamiliar grounds of the school where mom had dropped me off. Standing there at the foyer disoriented, accompanied only by my schoolbag, a glimmer of excitement and a whole lot of fear. Nonetheless, I was different from the other seconday one students. I looked around and glanced at many faces. All either confused or afraid, but none familiar. As I had expected, there wouldn't be anyone that I would know, afterall, no one from my primary school had chosen to come to Kent Ridge.

I went upstairs to the third level where everyone gathered outside the hall waiting to go in. I waited with them until the students started streaming into the hall and i just followed suit. Mummy had told me before i left home that my class was 1E4 and so i seated myself behind a shortrow of strangers seated behind the 1E4 class sign. I took out my book and pretended to read while still turning to my left and right occasionally still in desperate attempt to look for any primary school mate of mine.

A while later, this massive giant i came to know as Vanna came and sat in front of me. I was terrified of him and thinking of what he might do to me if i had offended him even in the slightest way.

Miss Chamb the principal, spoke into the microphone and the hall fell silent in less than a second. I was stunned by the authority of this woman and so i too kept silent and kept my eyes on her. She gave a long welcoming speech and i gave myself a long leg massage as my legs were getting cramped. After that, the classes were dismissed and i was brought to my new classroom where everyone had to introduce themselves and where i met all my new teachers.

after this, the student councillors brought us all back up to the hall and various ice-breaker games were played. This session helped me to get to know my classmates a little better and i was grateful for it. One of the games played was called " Funny Hand" as i vividly remember. Classmates had to join hands and without letting go, untangle the humant knot formed by the class to form a whole circle again.

After the ice-breakers session, we were brought on a tour around the school and the briefed on what to bring for our orientation camp that friday. We were then dismissed and that day remained in my mind as the day i started my seconday school life. (=

Dear Mrs Yeo, how are you? I'm fine and so is the class and we all miss you so dearly. Most of us have made it to Sec 4E6 and things have changed quite dramatically for us. Because this year is our final year and with the O-levels around the corner all the secondary four are starting to feel the pressure. We have to stay back for remedials almost everyday of the week and it is very stressful. Hopefully all our hard work will pay off at the end of the year.

Anyway, i just want to share with you some changes that have occured since the start of 2008. For one, the school has been repainted with different colours. I don't personally fancy them but, it's not my choice to make. But enough about that, recently we;ve had our annual sec one orientation camp and it was a success. The intake of seconday one students was good and we had eight classess this year. Although this is a rather large number to handle, the secondary one orientation camp "Stamp KR" went smoothly. There were some minor setbacks such as heavy rain during the games session which forced everyone to have to use the back-up plans of indoor games but in the end everything went well including the mass dance and this year the class i was in-charge of 1N3,even won second place for the cherring section which made this camp very significant to me as it is the last orientation camp i would be attending of my four years in Kent Ridge.

Another recent event that has taken place in Kent Ridge was having students from Shanghai come over. After some of our Kent Ridgeans had gone over to experience life in Shanghai last year, the Shanghai students now had a turn to do the same in SIngapore. These students were all about 14 years of age which made the seconday four including me, their seniors. Three of the shanghai students had to stay with their buddies in our class for two weeks to learn with us. Unfortunately, they didn't learn much as all our lessons were conducted in English except for mandarin. So they spent most of their time in our class sleeping. I personally found it exciting to have foreign students in our class and yet, it was excruciatingly difficult for me to communicate with them. My mandarin was of a horrible standard and yet it was the only way i could communicate with the shanghai students. Eventually it trained me to speak more mandarin and at the same time, alot of sign language was also practiced! When we played basketball after school sign language was often used between us. but it didn't really matter as long as we won. The Shanghai students left on the 31st of January, a Friday, amd there was a band performance and council mass dance by the school to say goodbye to them. They too gave a short performance and then there was a barbeque which unfortunately for me was only for the students from Shanghai and their buddies.

Well, those were just two of the many events that have happened at Kent Ridge since the start of 2008 and have so much more to say. But i'm a very very lazy person so, maybe next time I'll write more. Happy Chinese New Year in advance Mrs Yeo
